Maharashtra Fly Ash Information Center inaugurated

Mrs. Helen Deas (Deputy Head of Mission) British Deputy High Commission, Mumbai, inaugurated in the presence of local dignities, representatives of the construction industry and other interested parties this new institution for in depth training and further education concerning the utilization of Fly Ash.

Mr. S.R. Patil and his son who built and designed this new facility handed the keys to Mr. G. Dirk (chairman of DIRK GROUP). Helen Deas congratulated Dirk India for taking up this important initiative. She stated that this is demonstrating again the passion of the group-chairman to promote the recycling of industrial waste-/by-products like powerstation-by-products, waste water residues, paper and plastic. Helen Deas informed the audience that the British High Commission is grateful to Mr. Dirk for cooperating with them on trade missions promoting UK recycling expertise and by going back into the history of this relationship she highlighted that already in 1986 the UK Environmental Award was presented to Mr. Dirk.

After cutting the ribbon to open the center the first group of students from the K.K. Waugh Engineering college got their introduductory lecture and a tour of the site.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), India, became the Nobel Peace Prize laureate together with the former American Vice President Al Gore for laying foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract climate changes. This panel in collaboration with TERI (Tata Energy and Resources Institute) issued in 2006 a book containing 25 best projects for corporate environmental responsibility in India - the DIRK Pozzocrete plant at Nashik was selected as one of those twenty five project.
