Fueled by local protests and with the help of the good offices of the Hon.Mr.Babanrao Gholap Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, the Maharashtra Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO) agreed to build and promised to start work within 3 months on a 10 km concrete road connecting the POZZOCRETE plant to the main Highway. DIRK India agreed to build a large parking area and driver kiosk outside its plant as a present to the local village authorities.
The road conditions connecting the POZZOCRETE plant to the National High Way System were inadequatefor the heavy traffic movements from the Nashik POZZOCRETE plant. The road surface had been completely worn out, leaving large potholes. Already in 2005 the Maharastra State Electricity Board wrote to DIRK India, who were prepared to build the road using the contribution they pay to MAHAGENCO for the access to the raw ash, that they (Nashik Thermal Power Station), would build the road themselves. Following this some inadequate repair was done which left the road in the same deplorable state. Now the current MD of MAHAGENCO promised to finally do what is neccessary.
At the same time the number of vehicles waiting for loading in front of the POZZOCRETE plant became a nuisance to the local road users. The local authorities and MAHAGENCO instructed DIRK India to erect a proper parking area and driver kiosk with restaurant, toilets and showers on the land in front of DIRK's plant gate. DIRK India will hand over the parking area and the kiosk as a gift to the community of the village of Eklahare. Currently around 40 bulkers (silo tankers), 20- 30 export container vehicles and 30 normal lorries are approaching the POZZOCRETE plant day by day. It is to be expected that within the next 12 months this traffic will more than double.
