Nashik Thermal Power Station decommissions its outdated units 1 and 2 per 1st July 2011

July 05, 2011

Unit 1 and 2 of Nashik Thermal Power Station were first synchronized in 1970/1971. The two old units of Stage I of NTPS had a capacity of 140 MW each (downgraded to 110 MW each). Although DIRK India had the exclusive right to receive all raw Fly Ash (up to 3000 MT/day) from all NTPS units all Fly Ash from Unit 2 was given to ash traders without any ash quality control. This has now finally come to an end. MAHAGENCO has been informing that they will replace these two units by two 250 MW new boilers. No firm date for commissioning of these planned boilers had been published so far.

DIRK has been collecting the raw Fly Ash from Unit 1. DIRK's POZZOCRETE output is only marginally effected by this decommissioning. Unit 1 was providing a raw ash which only resulted in to a low percentage of POZZOCRETE 60 or 63 after processing in DIRK's classification plant. Most of the raw ash from Unit 1 became rejects which were provided free loaded to local brick and blockmakers in line with the MOEF Fly Ash Directive.
