Seminar on Fly Ash in Clay Bricks

April 15, 2007

On 7th of April 2007 a seminar was organized at the Nashik Fly Ash Information Centre on clay bricks. The brick industry from areas around Nashik and right up to Pune gave an overwhelming response to the seminar. The seminar was attended by 33 participants who are the clay brick manufacturers in the region.   This one day seminar was conducted by Mr Anand Damle who is a renowned international brick consultant and advisor to many reputed bodies. He deliberated on many aspects related to brick making right from selection of clay to the firing of bricks. He also enlightened the audience on commercial aspects related to brick business and highlighted the fact that only superior quality of bricks will lead to profitability in the business.   Mr Damle presented the environmental impact of the brick industry wherein the precious top soil of the earth is used in brick industry. He clearly demonstrated how fly ash can partially replace this top soil in brick making thus helping not only our environment but also improving quality of bricks substantially!   The coarser fly ash which comes out as by product from the Dirk POZZOCRETE plant is an excellent product for brick makers as it improves the plastic index of the mix. Particularly, in Maharashtra where brick makers struggle for right plasticity of soils, a 30 - 40% usage of this by product substantially improves the properties of the mix resulting into crack free bricks. The participants were delighted that finally their age old problem of cracking of bricks has been solved and they can take a sigh of relief now!
