Mass concreting starts for the Middle Vaitarna Dam by replacing 65 % of the cement with DIRK POZZOCRETE 40

April 02, 2010

DIRK POZZOCRETE 40 is the processed Fly Ash product produced by DIRK India Private Ltd at their Eklahare plant. The dam, being erected using RCC (Roller Compacted Concrete) will consume nearly 210.000 ts of POZZOCRETE . Today supply of the processed ash has started from the additional plant section in which DIRK India invested further to allow prompt and uninterrupted supply to this important project. A dedicated fleet of bulkers is transporting the material to the concrete batching plant near the construction site.

The Middle Vaitarna Dam  will be the tallest dam in Maharashtra. The dam will stand at a height of 102 meter when completed and will hold up 455 million liter of water vital for Mumbai's growing water demand. The city receives only 3400 Mld (million liters per day) compared to the 4000 Mld of demand. The water is expected to be transported to Bhandup treatment plant with a 40 km pipeline and delivered to the city.

The second tallest dam in the state stands at 84 m height on Pravara river in Ghatgar near Nashik which consumed 120.000 MT of DIRK POZZOCRETE 40 during its construction. The new RCC technology using high POZZOCRETE 40 cement replacement rates made the Ghatgar Dam the world wide  7th quickest Dam Project to be completed.

To avoid any held up in this important water supply project for Mumbai MAHAGENCO will have to supply sufficient raw fly ash from their Nashik Thermal Power Station for the DIRK India processing plant. Currently DIRK India is the only fly ash processing plant having the capacity to provide the daily demand of more than 500 MT of processed fly ash with guaranteed quality parameters.
