DIRK's aim: Fly Ash processing without residues

July 12, 2007

Mechanical air classification generates the quality verified POZZOCRETE products and the deselected Fly Ash fraction: rejects. These rejects have a range of beneficial applications. They can be used for block making, as road base material, and as raw material for grinding into ultra-fine Fly Ash, a partial replacement of Micro Silica.

Recently the Nashik plant has been updated with a reject raw material silo for these applications. The new systems allows dry loading of rejects into bulker and the filling of 1 ton big bags as well as 30 kg HDP bags.

A second installations allows to condition the rejects with water to supply smaller block making factories in open tippers, but dust free.

A third installations allows to mix (blend) the rejects with lime and other hydraulic agents to produce RHENIPAL ®, DIRK's trade marked product for sludge stabilisation and as DIRK-STABILAT® for road bases.

Very shortly DIRK will add to this its facility for ultrafine grinding to produce a partial micro silica replacement.

By this DIRK GROUP, UK, is transferring its proven ash recycling technologies to India step by step.

The aim is not to loose the special features of Fly Ash by complete inter-grinding of the ash [as done when producing PPC], but to maintain the sphere structure of the ash which is responsible for reduced water/cement ratio in concrete when using POZZOCRETE® = increased durability and workability. The provision of reject to the block making industry is helping to produce a uniform block product which is difficult to achieve with lagoon ash. Dedicated to emission savings all our processes are designed to result into the lowest energy consumption.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), India, became the Nobel Peace Prize laureate together with the former American Vice President Al Gore for laying foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract climate changes. This panel in collaboration with TERI (Tata Energy and Resources Institute) issued in 2006 a book containing 25 best projects for corporate environmental responsibility in India - the DIRK Pozzocrete plant at Nashik was selected as one of those twenty five project.
