On 5th June WORLD Environmental day was celebrated. It is a day of reckoning in respect of the environmental progress in the previous 12 months. DIRK India invited the public to inspect the POZZOCRETE plant on that day and to help with some tree plantations around the perimeter walls of the plant. We were honored by the visit of the Team of the Maharashtra State Pollution Board headed by Mr. A.J. Kude, as well as by the delegation of the neighboring Eklahare village headed by its Dy. Sarpanch Mr. Rajaram Dhanwate. Both teams planted several trees. The efforts DIRK India constantly undertakes to improve the environment were well recognized.
The 2008/2009 environmental progress of the DIRK, Nashik POZZOCRETE plant:
- increased its processing capacity in 2009 by 100%
- saved in the last financial year 500 000 ts of CO2 emissions by replacing cement in India and overseas
- continued to educate the construction industry and its consultants in the use of fly ash as cement replacement by financing and manning the Maharashtra Fly Ash Information Centre and conducting such courses overseas
- convinced the responsible Indian authorities that Fly Ash handling without proper processing facilities should be stopped
- provided the plant infrastructure to recycle 100% of fresh generated Fly Ash from Nashik Thermal Power Station (approx. 2400 ts/day)
- is currently erecting for thevillage of Eklahare (next to the DIRK plant) a new parking area for up to 80 vehicles with toilets and washroom facilities as well as restaurant Kiosk in landscaped surroundings.
